Our Philip Harris range of enzyme kits are ideal for project work by individual students or small groups of students.
This Urease Enzyme Project Pack contains all the reagents necessary to carry out experiments into the effect of enzyme and buffer concentrations on the reaction time of Urease active meal. The kit uses two different indicators so that students can compare the results from each.
The pack includes:
- Urease Active Meal
- Urea
- Buffer Powder pH5
- Buffer Powder pH7
- Buffer Powder pH7.5
- Bromothymol Blue Indicator
- Phenolphthalein Indicator

- Full supporting materials and instructions are included.
Possible experiments include:
- The Effect of enzyme and buffer concentrations on the reaction time of Urease.
- GCSE to A-Level Biology: Enzyme Activity
Preparation required:
- 3% urease solution: Add 3g of urease active meal to 100ml distilled water. Stir/shake the solution for at least 5 minutes to extract the Urease. Filter off the undissolved material. This solution should be freshly prepared.
- 2% urea solution: Dissolve 20g urea in 1 litre of distilled water.
- pH 5 buffer solution: Add 2.4g of buffer powder pH 5 to 200ml distilled water and stir until dissolved.
- pH 7 buffer solution: Add 4.8g of buffer powder pH 7 to 200ml distilled water and stir until dissolved.
- pH 7.5 buffer solution: Add 0.8g of buffer powder pH 7.5 to 100ml distilled water and stir until dissolved.
